Here you'll learn all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it, and how to sell it. Hi, all, and welcome back to the Mindset Coach Academy.
My name is Lindsey Wilson and it is Mental Monday where we talk about one tip, tool or technique that you can implement today or this week. So I was reading a study and it's called the two-door effect. You may be familiar with this. And basically what the research showed was that older kids had a higher IQ. And I think at first I think they were trying to figure out why, like were they getting more attention from their parents, were they had more resources, like whatever. And what they found was that the reason that these kids had higher IQs was very simple.
It's because they were teaching things to their younger kids, their younger siblings. And I think that this is something many of us do very naturally, but I think it's something that we could implement a little bit more. And what I mean by this is making sure that when we learn something, we go and we teach it. Again, we don't call it teaching, maybe we call it sharing, but it's going to be embedded in your brain on a higher level in a more, in a deeper way. We kind of know this, right? It's like if you learn something and then you go teach it.
Okay? So even this podcast, whether it's today or another podcast that you listen to, like are you learning this and then are you going to explain it to somebody else? Because if you do, it'll make you understand the concept more. The other part of this is those of us that, you know, our parents or our coaches, how can we get our kids to teach something? So for example, you know, when we teach the mental game plan, for example, We have a concept called learn, teach, implement. So with every tool that we teach, you are learning it from us, maybe some other places too, but essentially you're learning it from us. The next step is to go teach it.
So every tool that you are learning from us, the goal is to go teach it. And then the implementation is like making sure that it's the devil's in the details, right? Like making sure it's part of your practice plan, making sure it's part of your life. Like the implementation piece is important.
But the first two are really how it's gonna be solidified in your brain. Learn something, teach it. Learn something, teach it, okay? So again, if you're a parent or a coach, how can you empower your athletes when they learn something to go teach it? So a couple of quick things are like, if you teach them something about how the brain works, or even a drill, I know a lot of you guys do this, or a drill that then they go teach it to somebody else. You teach them a concept again about the brain or breathing, then they teach it. It empowers them and it makes it stronger in their brain.
I see this with my kids. They're, if they teach something to their siblings, they're learning it more. But also one of the things that excites them the most is teaching it to me. And by the way, I don't know about you guys' parents out there, but like sometimes they teach me things that I'm like, probably should have known that.
I think I learned that one time in my life and now I don't remember fourth grade math, or second grade math, right? So it helps them to teach it back to me. It's gonna be stronger in their brain. So again, the tutor effect. Older kids are smarter because they are teaching their younger siblings. So for us as teachers, as leaders, as coaches, as parents, how can we take concepts that we learn?
Again, the tutor effect. How can you take this concept and go teach it to somebody else today? And how can we be the type of person that encourages other people or even makes room for other people to do the same? So if we teach something to them, how can we then encourage them to, sorry, if they learn something from us, how can we then encourage them to go teach it themselves? Again, this is what we do in our programs. Learn, teach, learn, teach, learn, teach, okay? So the tutor effect. Take it, use it, it will help you.
So simple. A lot of us do it naturally already, but you're taking a little more intention and doing it for real. All right guys, hope that helps.
Come on over to Instagram, let me know how the tutor effect helped you. All right guys, we'll see you again next week. Bye for now.
