LindseyWelcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. I'm Lindsey Wilson and I am a high-performance mindset coach, a mom, a former professional athlete and an entrepreneur. I help coaches and high performers optimize their mindset to improve their coaching, their performance and those of their athletes and their lives. Here you'll learn all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it and how to sell it. Hi all and welcome to Mental Monday. This is the Mindset Coach Academy podcast and we're going to talk about one tool or technique that you can implement today or this week to up your mental game. I want to talk about the importance of practicing things that you want to do in pressure situations. So you might think this is just for athletes and it's not.
So let me give you an example. So oftentimes we teach athletes, not oftentimes pretty much all the time, just each athlete to have a reset ritual or mistake ritual when they're in pressure situations, they're in competition, they have something that they can go back to. They cannot learn that thing in under pressure. They have to learn it in practice. They have to learn it sitting down on a random day, learning it outside of that pressure situation. Likewise, for you, whether that's coaching or a job interview or doing a guided visualization for a client, we have to have practiced that a whole heck of a lot to be able to do it under pressure. So I see this with my coaching certification students.
We have to practice doing guided visualizations a lot over the four months of their certification so that they are ready to do it under pressure, which is in a client session or in a workshop with a bunch of people that they have practiced that guided visualization with scripts and with practice clients so much that under pressure they are relaxed. They cannot learn how to do it under pressure. So whether you need to hear this lesson for yourself or for those that you lead, remember that whatever we want people to do under pressure, we have to practice it outside of that situation. Another example, for any of the mindset coaching tools that we teach, simple things like taking a deep breath, being able to alter your thoughts, shift your thoughts, visualization exercises, any of that stuff that we teach, we don't learn how to do it under pressure. So let me give you an example. If I am working on taking a deep breath and shifting my thoughts when my kid has a meltdown, I'm not going to learn how to do that when they have a meltdown, when they are screaming bloody murder in the middle of the grocery store.
I am not going to learn that tool then. I have to have practiced it offline, as they say, outside of that pressure situation. Practicing, taking that deep breath, shifting my thoughts so that when I'm in those situations or so that when your athlete is in the game or so that when you are in the job interview, you can go back to these things that you have practiced outside of the pressure situation. No one learns things in the middle of pressure situations, not you, not those that you lead, not the young people in your life, not your clients. Nobody learns in pressure situations. We learn in calm, safe situations so that we can use them when we need them most. Just a little tip, take back to your life today.
