Welcome to the Mindset Coach Podcast. My name is Lindsey Wilson, former professional athlete, turned high-performance mindset coach and entrepreneur. On this podcast, we're talking all things mindset, how to work on your own mostly, but also how to teach it and how to have a business teaching it if that's your thing. If you're an athlete, coach, mindset coach or high-performance individual that loves all things mindset, welcome.
You're in the right place. Let's see this. Welcome to Mental Monday.
All right. Today, I want to talk about choosing the right kind of heart. What do I mean by that? Well, what we often do when we are going to accomplish a big goal is we think about our weaknesses first and we assume that the struggle is going to come from working through those, which sound really hard because we're not good at them or we don't know anything about it.
So let me give you a couple of examples. Let's say we want to get in better shape, but we don't know what to do. We don't know what workout program to do. So we start doing all this hard work on researching and figuring out and planning and we waste all of our time and effort on this thing that maybe we're not even that good at because we're not trained in it when we could be spending our time just getting in better shape. So in other words, we could have found somebody or some program to help us with the thing that we're not actually that good at in order to choose the right kind of heart because nobody else can get up in the morning and do the workout, but someone else can help you with something else.
Let me give you another example. So let's say you want to write a book and you think, gosh, the one thing I'm okay with writing, the one thing that I don't know what to do or how to do is edit or maybe I don't know how to publish a book. Well, it's going to be hard to write it.
So choose that hard and worry about the rest later or find somebody else that's really good at figuring out publishing to help you with that. And then the final example that I see so often is people wanting to start their own mindset coaching business. But they think about the one thing that they're not good at yet or the one thing that they don't have any training in, which often not always, but often is having to do with business or selling.
And so they think of this big, huge weakness as the reason they can't move forward. But if they just focused on what they're already good at and worried about getting help with the rest, they could choose the right kind of heart. They could put their hard work and their discipline and their effort towards things that they're already good at instead of wasting time trying to figure out their weaknesses on their own. In anything that you want to do when you start focusing on your weaknesses, because we all have them, we all have things that we're not good at yet. We all have things that we don't know how to do. We all have things that we're going to have to figure out along the way.
When we focus on those instead of recognizing that those are solvable, those are solvable by you by learning a little bit, or they're solvable by finding help more likely, finding coaching, finding a system, finding a program that is already invented. When we spend our time choosing our heart on the things that we must do to move forward and worry less about our weaknesses, we make more progress. So that is my mindset shift for today. This is my mental Monday is choose the right kind of heart. Use your effort towards the things that are going to move you forward and worry less about your weaknesses. You don't have to struggle through your weaknesses. That doesn't mean they're not going to be hard in some way. But when we focus our efforts on the things that can move us forward, we are much more likely to get momentum. So choose the right kind of heart. I'll see you again soon.
