Speaker 1: Welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. I'm Lindsey Wilson and I am a high-performance mindset coach, a mom, a former professional athlete and an entrepreneur. I help coaches and high performers optimize their mindset to improve their coaching, their performance and those of their athletes and their lives. Here you'll learn all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it and how to sell it. Hi all and welcome back to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast.
My name is Lindsey Wilson. It's Mental Monday. You guys, we're going to talk about your why. Now I have a funny story behind this because I was on a mastermind the other day and they started talking about your purpose and your mission and your why and I have to say that I had a little bit of like a grown response because it was a little bit like, I don't know, some of this stuff, it's like it's just said so often that it gets, I don't know, like loses its effect on me.
Like it feels a little bit like, I don't know, it's just used too much. So I was like, oh God, okay, we have to do our why. Okay, I already know my, and I also feel like I already know my why. Like I feel like I know why I'm here.
Like one of the biggest things, the reason I'm here is because I got mental training. Most of the people I was around didn't. And I saw the difference.
Like, and I felt super lucky. And so I felt this like need and mission to pay it forward because I looked around and I was like, why the fuck are we not doing anything about this? And then I was like, so no one's doing anything. Okay, so I guess I need to. And that of course happened over years, but all of a sudden I was like, okay, this is I think what I need to do. So I kind of, I feel like I know my why, I feel like I've not a lot of work on my why. But I did it because I'm a coachable. And I do like being forced into these things forced, pushed, nudged, whatever. But I'm telling you about this because I know sometimes we feel like we know our why, but reiterating it, saying it again, it shifts a little bit as we as we change, right? And so coming back to it, reminding ourselves of it, because let's face it, our why, even if we really know it, even if it still motivates us from a day to day standpoint, it can get lost in our day to day work, right?
Like that's not unheard of. I do a lot of things that are not super connected to my why and running my business. And so having that space to reiterate it to myself and to say it out loud to other people was massively helpful. So I want to talk about that today. And I should say massively helpful, even though I really didn't want to do it.
So I wanted to just throw out some sort of prompts for you. So what is your why if you're why in your job? What is your why for getting healthier or getting in shape? What is your why for wanting to change careers? And of course, if you're a mental performance coach or wanting to be one, what is your why for being a mental coach?
Okay, so I'm going to tell you mine, because like I said, I talked about a little bit in the beginning of this episode, but like, I went deeper and again, saying it out loud was helpful. And here's the other homework that I would say to you is pair up with somebody and say it. And yes, it's going to be awkward to each other. Like, okay, so if you're coach, find an assistant coach, or the head coach and say, Hey, can we talk about our why is of coaching?
I think that would be really helpful. And it's going to be awkward. You're not going to want to do it. You're going to listen to this podcast, and you're going to purposely forget that I gave you that challenge. But I'm going to say it again, find somebody.
And of course, they don't have to do it too, you don't have to force them to do it. You can say, Can I tell you my why for coaching? Can I tell you my why my person, you know, you're working with a trainer, you're working out with somebody. Can I tell you my why for getting in shape? You know, it's I want to be an example to my kids of a healthy body, you know, and blah, blah, blah, right?
Like, it is really helpful to say it out loud, saying it out loud, say it to your spouse. Okay, so I'm going to tell you my why. Again, it helps me, but also I think it's going to help you sort of think of whatever you need to find your why and to think of it differently. Okay, so I am a mental performance coach, because I believe very strongly that the world needs more mental performance coaches.
I believe sports, I'm biased in this but you might agree, I believe sports is the best vehicle for young people especially to learn skills for managing their brain in life. I also believe, so another one of my whys is that so many coaches are doing this work unofficially, probably inefficiently and they could have a bigger impact, be more fulfilled, be less burnt out doing this work if they had some training in it. I also believe, and this is part of my mission with the Academy, is that you don't need a degree to do this really well. You do not need a degree to do this really well. And I think that that thought error holds back a lot of people that think they need to go get an advanced degree and it's just not the case.
Now you need training and you need to be good at it but that doesn't necessarily include an academic degree. I believe that you can help people and make money, have the life that you want with a lot of impact and create win-wins for yourself and others when your gifts are aligned with what the world needs. I just believe that. And I also believe, and this is why I am here, that there is a huge opportunity for all of us to impact lives more and deeper. And I think that that opportunity is so much bigger than we even realize. And I also believe that that work starts with us, always. It always starts with you, with me, doing our own personal work.
That's where we have the impact. So that is why I'm here. Why are you here? I would love to hear whether you want to talk about why you're here from a mental performance standpoint.
Come on over to Instagram @lindseypositiveperform, shoot me a DM, hit me up on Stories. What is your why? Why are you here? Why are you studying mindset and mental performance coach?
Coaching, why are you here? Why is it impacting your life? Why do you want to impact other people's lives? What does that actually mean to you? And you guys, again, I'm going to say this again, I said in the beginning, but I think it's really easy when we are mission driven and we are purposeful people and we're authentic, we're trying to be all the time, that we don't have to do this work because we're living it every day. But there is something very significant about reminding ourselves and there's also something significant about saying it out loud.
So I'm going to say it again to you, go find somebody, tell them your why, tell them your why for your job, tell them your why for coaching, tell them your why for getting in shape, whatever it is, tell someone your why. It's magic, you guys, you will feel it in your body. I swear to God, like since I did this exercise, I was like, it didn't teach me anything new.
It wasn't that. It was like, okay, there's another layer to it now that I've been doing this for a while. And I'm remind, it's like, it's like, it pulled it from this inner thing, which is important to like the surface of my actions. And I'm like, ah, that's it.
That's why I'm here. Let's do this. Okay. So I want that for you. So think of your why, pick one area of your life, think of your why, tell it to somebody else. That's your challenge for this week. And then come over to Instagram, if you feel like it, and let me know about it. All right, guys, if you liked this episode, share it with somebody. You know somebody that could benefit from this.
You also know somebody that's probably rolls their eyes about talking about their why that could really, really use it. So click share. Let's do this guys. Let's do this together. All right, guys, see you again next week for Mental Monday.
