Hi guys and welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. My name is Lindsey Wilson and today is Mental Monday.
You guys are got a good one for you today. So you guys know I love like little tiny things that you can just use in your life, little tricks, little things that you can just implement right away that really, really work. And whenever I learn one of these things, it's like I'm always kind of surprised even though I've learned so many of them that really work and they work instantaneously.
Now this one came from my three-year-olds and I love that even more. And by the way, for the teachers out there, I am loving how much emotional learning is going on in school. Like I am just constantly impressed by so many of the things that my kids bring home from school as far as their learning and their understanding. You know, for example, my kids, her daycares or her pre-K's had this, but the actual public school has like a sensory room where they can go if they're getting overwhelmed or it's just too much and they need a calm space. They have one of those for the kindergartners.
They are always talking about the mood meter. If you have young kids, you probably know this. So they're able to label and identify their feelings and they draw it out with colors. And like my kids are learning so much about their emotions and I'm to hear for all of it.
I love it. And I'm also learning myself, which is like really cool. So anyway, my three-year-old came home the other day and she kept saying waterfall to me.
And so I'm really excited to be back. Anyway, if you're watching the video of this, you'll see me do it, but even if you're watching the audio on podcast, basically what she does is she says whenever you're getting stressed or just activated, right? Disregulated, activated, she would put her hands up in front of her face almost like giving you a high 10, and she would say waterfall, and she'd bring her hands down.
Okay, so you can imagine, again, if you're not watching the video, you're listening to the audio. It's like you're giving me a high 10 up in the air, and then you're pulling your hands down like your hands are a waterfall. And there's something about the word with the hand motion, which actually reminds me of our mistake ritual, like putting the hand motion to it takes it to another level, like the slow motion of my hands as I'm putting them up and then pulling them down.
It calms my body. And the other thing is she does it for me. So she would say waterfall, and I would watch her hands. So again, she would say mommy, waterfall, and she'd put her hands up in front of her, but sort of in front of my face, and then just slowly pull the hands down.
And she might do that a couple of times, waterfall, and then she would just pull them down, and then pull them down, and then pull them down. It's almost, I don't know, I've never done Tai Chi, but like that's kind of what it, I imagine it to be, but don't know if it is not, but like connect a kinesthetic connection or watching somebody, it immediately calms you down. So again, is this so simple, but I really invite you to use it and to do it right now, or to do it with somebody if you're having a difficult conversation or you see somebody stressed out, say waterfall, high 10 in the air and bring your hands down.
And again, you can do it a couple of times. It's almost like petting, you know, like almost like obviously there's no dog in front of me, but like it's almost like petting the air in front of me. And then when you say waterfall, I imagine a waterfall too, like my hands become a waterfall. It's just so cool. I just, it's so simple. It's so cool that I just had to jump on and share it with you guys.
Try the waterfall technique. It's really helpful and your kids will love it. Your kids will love it because mine do.
And of course they taught it to me, which is even more cool. All right guys, that's all I got for today. If you love this podcast, go ahead and leave me a message about the waterfall or come onto Instagram, Lindsey at positive perform. No, at Lindsey positive perform.
