I can't wait to see you at our three day summit. Hi all and welcome back to the mindset coach Academy podcast.
My name is Lindsey Wilson. Today I want to talk about a very simple technique for when you're feeling stressed. So I was talking to my hypnotist last week. Now many of you guys know if you've done any of your programs or you followed me for a while that I teach a lot about visualization, but my training is actually in hypnosis. And with our performance visualization specialist training, we bring in a lot of principles from hypnosis. That's my training. That's my experience.
That is what I practice. Hypnosis is one of those words that it's hard to use because people misunderstand it and you kind of don't know what people's experience or preconceived ideas about it are. So a lot of times we use visualization and imagery because they're softer words that people don't have so many preconceived notions about it.
But really the way that I teach it and the way that I use it is like it's a mix of all of it. I use breath work. I use mindfulness. I use meditation principles and visualization and imagery. But a lot of what I use is hypnosis and some of that is self-hypnosis as well. So I want to talk about one of the techniques that I'm using right now from my hypnotist whose name is Dr. James Hollingsworth.
Hi, Dr. Hollingsworth. That's helping me a lot. So essentially when I mean hypnosis principles, I mean metaphors. There's a lot we could go into. This is just a mental Monday, so we're not going to go totally into it. But really, what I'm going to teach you today is simply a metaphor. It's a story that we tell ourselves that our subconscious brain can understand. Because here's what happens with our subconscious brain. And in this case, you know, being nervous or stressed or anxious, it's our central nervous system getting activated. And if you use language to tell your central nervous system in your subconscious brain to relax, does it listen?
No, it actually probably does the opposite. So what we're going to do is we're going to use a metaphor. And the metaphor that I'm using with a lot going on in my brain right now, and the four while I'm recording this, it's the holidays, you may be listening to it after the new year, regardless, it's just there's a lot going on around this time of year, right? And so if you're feeling stressed or anxious or worried or whatever, it feels like almost like to me, it feels like almost like fireworks going off, right? There's just a lot of things to manage.
And sometimes you feel like you can't get your head screwed on straight because there's so much in your brain. So the metaphor that I'm using is allowing the butterflies to softly land, allowing the butterflies to softly land. Now I do a hypnosis that has me imagine this, but if you're somewhere safe right now that you can close your eyes, you can do this and you can do this like 100 times a day. And just imagine all the butterflies in your brain, all the butterflies in your chest, all the butterflies in your stomach, wherever you feel the butterflies, imagine them, tell yourself, see them landing softly. It's such a beautiful image that it immediately calms me. So again, wherever you are, imagine where you're feeling those butterflies. Is it in your brain? Is it in your chest? Is it in your stomach?
Is it lower than that? Wherever you feel them, imagine those butterflies all landing softly. This is extremely helpful for me that I feel almost an immediate relief from feeling chaotic. And when I do that, it's sort of snowballs into almost like a feeling of empowerment like, okay, we took care of the butterflies.
Now we can take care of getting some things done in our life. And then it's snowballs to like, okay, no, I can't do this. I got that thing checked off my list instead of sitting there paralyzed because the butterflies are everywhere, right?
So I invite you to try this metaphor. You don't have to be trained in hypnosis. You don't have to know what you're doing with visualization and imagery work. You don't have to be certified with us.
None of that. Just take that image and imagine, and you can do this multiple times a day, like I said, imagine the butterflies landing softly. Go ahead and give it a try. I hope that you love it. I hope that it helps you get through your day and deal with some stressful things in your life. All right, guys, that's all for Mental Monday. See you again next week.
