Here you'll learn all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it and how to sell it.
Hi all and welcome back to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. My name is Lindsey Wilson and today we are talking about visualization in our mental Monday. Here's what I want to talk about when it comes to visualization. I think a lot of people get really like hung up on if they're doing it right and how to do it and just like over complicating it. So this is going to be my visualization for dummies but also I want to explain visualization in a way that's really easy to understand and something that you're already doing and it's this. I want you to think of visualization as training your brain to crave your goals.
Let me explain why. So let's imagine that you have a dinner that you want. Let's say you really want a hamburger for dinner and you start craving it. You start thinking about this hamburger and in many ways you're doing what official visualization would be. You're seeing it in your mind's eye. You're imagining how it's going to taste. You're imagining maybe who you're going to eat it with and what you're going to put on it and what it's going to smell like and all the things. You are like having the experience of eating a hamburger.
Right? And it is real to you. And so because you have done that work, let's call it work even though it comes naturally to us, you have done that work of imagining this hamburger. Guess what happens? Your actions start lining up with that destination, with that goal of that hamburger.
So what do you do? Maybe you go to the grocery store and get some really great ground beef. Maybe you put in an order online from a restaurant you'd like. Maybe you go to the restaurant. Maybe you make reservations at the restaurant. Maybe you call your friend and say, hey, do you want to grab happy hour?
Maybe you get your husband to get you your hamburger because you're craving it when you're eight months pregnant. Ask me how I know. All right. So you do all these things, whatever those things are, to line up your actions with the goal that you want. And here's the connection. If you haven't made it already, we can do this intentionally for things that are much bigger and much more important than the dang hamburger.
Right? We can do this exercise intentionally for the goals that we want because once we decide that we want X, we want the business, the relationship, the health, the car, the house, the revenue goal, whatever that goal is, it's the same as the hamburger. When we visualize it, we start craving it.
Here's the other thing. When we start visualizing it, we believe that it is possible. We believe that it is inevitable. We believe that that goal of that hamburger or that revenue goal or that business is going to happen. And so our brain gets on board with the actions we're going to do. Now, for many of our goals, they're not going to happen just at dinner time. They're longer term. So this means we have to keep up visualization consistently to keep reminding ourselves of this longer term goal. It's not going to happen at dinner time.
It's not even going to happen tomorrow at dinner time. These are longer term goals. So we have to keep the practice up.
And this is why we recommend doing something like the braver daily or our students do the daily beast with the braver. Getting our brain craving that goal. seeing it, feeling it, tasting it, experiencing it as if it has already happened. Now we need to do the actions that lead to the goal. And this is the other thing that I want you to just sort of put in your brain. Think of how easy and natural the actions become to get the hamburger. It's almost like you don't even have to think about it. You're just like, yep, on my way home, I'm gonna stop at the grocery store and I'm gonna get the lettuce and the buns and blah, blah, blah. You just figure it out. It's not even that much effort. You do the things that lead to the goal.
And when that happens for your bigger goals, the actions become easier, more natural, and there's not this big resistance. There's no part of you that's like, oh God, should I go to that restaurant? I don't know, maybe you just do it because you're like, I want the damn hamburger. So think of visualization as training your brain to crave the things that matter most, these bigger goals. If you can do that, how you do it and what you do and what time you do it and all that stuff will fall into place. But here's what I want to tell you. This again, because these are longer term goals and not gonna happen in the next couple days, we have to do this regularly.
This is why we do the braver and the daily beast regularly. Ideally every day, especially the days that you're working, right? Where you're sitting down and you're actually visualizing the goal that you want. And I want to use all five senses. I also want to use emotions. I also want to imagine my body in that experience. Those are all really important parts of visualization.
If you want more information on visualization, we have tons of stuff on our website. I do recommend the braver. We'll put that in the show notes as a good starter. It's very athlete based, but really we all do it. All of our students do it. And it's really putting a visualization experience into a really easy process that you can do based on your affirmations and the goals that you have in your life.
So I've definitely checked that out if you're interested in getting started with visualization. But again, don't get all perfectionist about it. It can be as simple as closing your eyes and experiencing that goal just in the same way you experienced the hamburger as if it's happening right now. If you can do that consistently, you are training your brain to crave intentionally the thing that you're probably maybe saying that you want, but it's a lot different saying, hey, maybe sort of kind of want to get a hamburger versus like, I'm actually visualizing it happening. Your brain gets on board and the actions become a lot easier. So that is my visualization for dummies and especially why you should do it and how it actually works and how I want you to think about it.
Okay. So just again, we do this all the time, you guys. This is a very natural part of how our brain works. This is how advertising works.
It tells us and shows us the car that we should be wanting and it creates that craving and that desire within us. Let's do it intentionally for the things that actually matter. All right, guys.
