Hi all and welcome back to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast.
My name is Lindsey Wilson and it is Mental Monday. Y'all, we talk about one thing that you can take back into your life and make it better. Work on your own mindset. And today I want to talk about belief and in particular, I want to talk about the motivation triad. See, as mindset coaches, one of the most important things that we can do is continually work on our belief in our self, in what we offer in our clients. This is the work and I should say this is in particular the work that you're going to have to do for the first, I would say three years of your business. Now, don't get me wrong. It is something that I continue to work on, especially as you go to the upper levels.
But in the beginning, so much of your confidence is so tenuous and so based on results that I would say you sort of have to over index it in the beginning. And here's the thing nobody tells you. This is going to be work. It's not going to happen by accident. And when you let it happen by accident, meaning you let it happen based on results, it's really hard to keep it up.
So this is what happens. Like the results that you want in your business, let's say you want to get five clients or whatever, we have to believe that that is possible before it actually becomes possible. And the big results that we want are not going to come right away, right?
Like maybe you want to get to 100k as a business owner, as a mass performance coach, that's not going to happen overnight. So the only way that we're going to get it is by consistent action. And the only way we're going to get to consistent action is by believing that that action is going to result in something, even if it's not resulting in something right now. And this comes back to the motivation triad.
So the motivation triad is our brain is always working on three different things. It's working to conserve energy. It's working to avoid pain. And it's working to increase comfort.
Okay. So so much of what we do is uncomfortable. So much what we do causes pain.
And so much of what we do is potentially wasting energy. We're not really sure, right? Because we don't really know if that business development opportunity that we just did is actually going to lead to anything. We don't know if that conversation is going to lead to anything. We don't know if this curriculum is going to lead to anything. And so our brain is almost hardwired against all of the things that we have to do as entrepreneurs.
Okay. So this is why we have to actively work on believing that this is going to work out. Because again, if we're trying to conserve energy, we're trying to conserve energy. We don't want to waste things. And we want to avoid pain when it increased comfort. Our brain is screaming at us to get the F out of dodge. In particular, I would say the conserve energy one is a big one because if you don't believe it's going to work out, and you don't have reasonable expectations for how long it's gonna take, your brand's like, yeah, we're out of here.
No, thank you. And so this is the thing that no one tells you about running a business. It's not about your website. It's not about your font colors, fonts and colors.
It's not about the pictures that you have. It's not about even necessarily what you teach, although we obviously wanna teach well enough to get results, that's important, really important. But the idea that so much of your energy, especially in the beginning, I say that and I still spend so much time on it. So I don't wanna insinuate that at some point you're just gonna be like, I've arrived.
There's no more belief work. But I would just say in the beginning, it's, I would say I would overindex in the beginning because you don't have a lot of foundational results to fall back on that you can say, well, you know, I've at least sold or I've at least sold this much or I've at least gotten this many clients. Cause once you get to that level, you don't really go back, right? Like if you have, let's say you make $10,000 as a mindset coach, well now you know you can do it. You don't have to work on the belief to get to 10,000. You have to work now on the belief to get to 100,000. But at least you have that foundation of like, okay, I've done this before.
Do you know what I mean? So anyway, the belief in the beginning is so, so, so important and nobody tells you that. No one tells you that.
Except for me, I'm going to be telling you that all the time. The belief tried is so important again, because so much of what you have to do as a business owner for at least the first three years. I'm just saying that because I think that's like the most important time and that's the time most people quit at least the first three years is working on the belief that this is going to work. And that takes work because the results are not going to come overnight. They are going to come after consistent effort and you're not going to put the effort in unless your brain believes that it's going to pay off. You see the catch 22 there? Cause it's not going to pay off in the beginning.
Not right away. It's going to take work. So you have to keep up that belief. And that is what we do in the Mindset Coach Academy and the Insider Mastermind. This is the work that we do.
And the reason I'm telling you that is because when you try to do this work on your own, it's not impossible, but it's a lot harder. It's so much easier to look around and be like, oh, I can borrow their belief. I can see them doing it and I'm just like, I'm like them. So your belief gets built up by osmosis and it's not as much effort. Whether it's our community or some other community, get coached, get a community. If you try to do it yourself, you're putting that much more effort into the belief part and that effort could be spent on other things. So that's the one big piece of advice I would give is try to offset some of the belief work onto other people. So that's my message for today, Mental Monday. If you love this episode, please share it with somebody and of course give us five star review and keep coming back guys. Glad to have you here and we'll see you again next week for Mental Monday.
