Welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. I'm Lindsey Wilson and I am a high performance mindset coach, a mom, a former professional athlete and an entrepreneur. I help coaches and high performers optimize their mindset to improve their coaching, their performance and those of their athletes and their lives. Here you'll learn all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it and how to sell it.
Hi everybody and welcome back to the Mindset Coach Academy. It's Mental Monday.
You know what we do on Mental Mondays. We talk about one thing, just one thing that you can do to implement in your life a tool or technique, something that you can do now. I want to talk about visualization and imagery and I know many of you are using visualization and imagery with your clients or with your athletes, but I hope that you're also using it for yourself and in particular, you know, we teach it through the braver, but really you could do it for any kind of visualization about your future. So you can do your affirmations and you can close your eyes and you can visualize. You can do some journaling, you can close your eyes and you can visualize. You can visualize before you go into a job interview. You can visualize before you speak on stage, before you coach. Any of that imagery work is going to be extremely helpful. And when we're talking about getting to a next level in our life, visualizing that it is possible is giving your brain mental reps and reminders that this goal that you're working towards is safe.
It's possible. Remember, our brain doesn't want to waste energy. It's not going to do it. If it doesn't think it's going to work out, so we better make sure that it believes it's going to work out, that it's safe, comfortable, that it's great there, right? It's getting your brain comfortable with this new you. Otherwise, it's going to reject it because it's new.
Okay. So that's the why on visualization, but I want to talk right now about taking your visualization to the next level. So often when we think about visualization, we think about the sense of sight. We think about imagery.
And it's a little bit of a misnomer because we really want to use all of our senses and also these two bonus things. I'm going to talk about in a second. So again, let's say you are imagining your next level self.
So for me, it's a certain level that I want to get to as an entrepreneur. And I see that experience, but I also want to bring in all five senses. So I might hear something. I might taste something. I might smell something. All of those things, I might feel something on my skin. All of those things are going to be really, really important in your imagery work. And some are going to be stronger than others for you. That's okay.
The other two things that I want you to bring in is emotion. What does it feel like to be at that level of entrepreneurship for me? What does it feel like? How does it feel in my body? How does it feel in emotions? That's a really important way to take your visualization to the next level, because our subconscious brain really understands emotion.
So that's going to be really important. The other thing is your body's movement. So what does it feel like to walk in your body? And this is really going to be really important for athletes with good body awareness. But for any of us, what does it feel like in your body to be at that level? What is your awareness of your body? Your movement. How do you walk into a room or your shoulders back a little bit higher?
Do you walk a little bit higher? Those sorts of things are going to make the imagery more real. And once more real, it's more believable for your subconscious. So two ways to take your visualization to the next level. Well, the first is to use all five senses.
But the other two ways is to use emotion and body movement. Try it out. And don't make this into this big, huge thing. Just think of like, close your eyes right now, if you're not driving. Close your eyes right now and visualize your next level self. And again, bring in all five senses. Bring in what does it feel like emotionally to be there? And how does your body feel in that moment?
What is it? How does your body moving through that experience? Okay, try it out. Dude, if you love this, if you tried it out and it took your visualization to the next level, come on over to Instagram and tell me about it. I would love to connect with you on DMs at Lindsey Positive Perform. All right, guys, you have an awesome day. I hope this was helpful and we'll see you again next week for Mental Monday.
