Welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. I'm Lindsey Wilson and I am a high-performance mindset coach, a mom, a former professional athlete and an entrepreneur. I help coaches and high performers optimize their mindset to improve their coaching, their performance and those of their athletes and their lives. Here you'll learn all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it and how to sell it.
Hi all and welcome back to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. My name is Lindsey Wilson and it is Mental Monday. Now this is where we talk about one tip, tool, or technique that you can implement in your life today or this week and I wanted to talk real quick about pain and in particular and as I'm talking about this I apologize if you can hear what sounds like an elephant above my head because my children just got roller skates and they're practicing upstairs.
So that's great. Well I'm recording a podcast. My children are learning to roller skate which I'm generally in favor of but man it can be loud so I apologize in advance but I know for most of you you understand.
Okay so let's talk about pain for a second okay and the power of pain and what I want you to think about is in the moment of some painful thing in your life or even uncomfortable thing in your life or something that you wish was not happening. I want you to take a moment and imagine that that's the thing that is going to get you to another level in your life, in your mindset, in your emotional capacity, whatever it is that that pain is going to be the thing that makes you a better entrepreneur, that makes you a better parent, that makes you a better human. I've seen this a lot with my students when they are struggling with something from an entrepreneurial stampede or something in their career and I always ask them how is this going to make you a better coach?
And it's amazing how just asking this, and of course, you can change that to anything. Like how is this gonna make you a better parent? How is this gonna make you a better sports coach?
How is this gonna make you a better human? You can change that to anything, but what that does is it puts you in a curious, creative learning phase instead of a victim phase. And it makes you think about what you can get out of it instead of what's happening to you. So it turns you into, similar to what we talk about, like the CEO versus the frantic employee, it's like the person that's in control versus the victim, the driver versus the passenger, whatever metaphor you wanna use. But essentially, when you switch that pain is happening to you instead of that pain is growing you in some way, a lot of things shift.
And it's really hard in the moment to stay there. I'm not gonna lie, but one, you can do it hindsight's 2020. You can always do it for something in the past. And even as you do it for the past, you can then apply it to what you're going through now, even if you can't see it. But even if you can't stay in that mindset in the moment, even taking a second to think about your pain or discomfort in a different way will give you just a little distance from being in it. And that little distance, it's like cracking open the door to a little bit of relief or a little bit of purpose behind the pain.
And that's really what we're going for. So anyway, next time you're in pain or if you're in pain right now or discomfort or anything, think about how that actual thing is going to be the thing that gets you to another level in your life, in your business, in your career, in your relationships, whatever it is, and then see how that shifts things for you. All right, guys, so that's it for Mental Monday. I hope that you're having a great week. And as always, if you like this episode, rate, review it, share it, subscribe, do all the things. We'd so appreciate it. And we'll see you again next week.
