Hi y'all and welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy Podcast. It is Mental Monday. I am sitting in my studio and it's blazing hot outside.
I just got out of my cold plunge which truth be told is not as cold as I want it to be but it does the trick. And if you're watching this video, I have a new microphone. I think it's called a boom. Is that what it's called? I think it's called a boom.
It's an arm which makes it all fancy so I can like move it exactly to where I want it to be which is kind of exciting.
So today. Okay, that has like, there's no segue into what we're talking about today, by the way. A lot of times there is and there's zero segue today. Totally unrelated in my Mental Monday this week.
I wanted to talk about saying yes. I have longer stories in regards to this lately, but the reason I'm thinking about this is because this week, actually last week, but it's happening this week in the Mindset Coach Academy Certification, it's our month, it's our week three where we run towards failure, which means we do something scary, new, uncomfortable, something that we might fail at. And we try to train our brain to overcome the very irrational but nevertheless real feeling - fear. So in the past people have sung on stage, they've done cold plunges like me or I did an improv class, a lot of people surprisingly, maybe not surprisingly, it was surprising at first, but not anymore. They have difficult conversations with the loved one or with someone they care about. What else have people done? Spoken in public?
Anyway, you get the idea. So that's what we're doing this week in the certification, but I was thinking about this for this podcast and one sort of simple way that you can do this is just say yes to like the next thing that someone offers, especially if it's you find yourself coming up with all the excuses. And I did this actually yesterday, what happened last week, but the concert that I went to was yesterday and I almost said no. I have a whole story about this, but anyway, I almost said no because you know, childcare and all that.
And so I want to challenge you this week. The next time someone asks you to do something or there's an opportunity or there's something that you could do that maybe your brain offers up many, many, many excuses for you not to do it, that is a sign that you probably should do it because your brain is coming up with creative reasons. to keep you from doing something uncomfortable. Now it doesn't have to be something crazy. Like mine was a concert, of course people want to go to concerts, but it just goes to show that our brain is really sneaky and it finds reasons for you not to do even fun things. And we get into the habit of saying no a lot because there's time issues or money issues or kids or other responsibilities or we just don't want to commit.
I find myself sometimes getting into like the no habit. And what I want to encourage you to do is, again, you don't have to do something crazy and big like we're doing in the certification, but just saying yes. Just say yes to the next opportunity, especially if your brain is offering you reasons, quote unquote reasons, i.e. excuses to not do it. And don't overthink this. Again, this doesn't have to be something new, scary, big.
It could be something fun. It could be something that your brain just, you know, it just is just used to saying no. And so it almost says no, but you're going to catch yourself and you're going to say yes. Okay, guys, that's your mental Monday. I'll see you again next week. And thanks for listening.
