Welcome back to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. My name is Lindsey Wilson and it is Mental Monday where we're just going to talk about one, one thing, one small thing that you can do in your life today or this week that can have a massive impact. Now, if you read my newsletter,
or maybe even on Instagram, but definitely on my newsletter. I've talked about how I'm kind of on the struggle bus lately. Got some big things going on in my life and I was talking about some of the things that have helped me, not solved it for me, not miraculously made me feel better, but just helped. And I think this is important as a human, but certainly as a mental performance coach is we have to practice what we preach. And sometimes those tools still leave us lacking because we are humans with human brains and we just keep going. We just keep working on our brain and using all the tools and throwing all the things that we've worked on all these years into what we're struggling with and it has been helping. But I wanna talk about one thing in particular because I think it's an obvious thing, but it's also something that when you're in the middle of struggling, sometimes it's hard to see. And just FYI, let's not get into the how much am I struggling kind of thing. I mean, asking yourself that.
It doesn't really matter, right? There's no score system on struggle. There's no, I mean, it can be helpful to look at other people and recognize that your problems aren't that bad. That can be a useful exercise, but it's not useful if it makes you minimize in a negative way your struggle. So let me just preface it by that.
Whatever you're struggling with is a struggle and what I'm about to tell you potentially can help. And it's this, pulling the thread of joy. And for me, this looks like getting a bird feeder. Now this may sound like a really silly, simple thing, but the fact of the matter is, is that I get joy like probably, I don't know, 60 times a day just looking out at my bird feeder. There's so many, by the way, there's so many birds. The other day there was a hawk in my tree. And if you've been on my newsletter, you also know I'm obsessed with hawks. So all of a sudden all the birds scattered.
And I look up and I can see this Cooper's hawk that I don't know if it's the same one, but I haven't seen one in the neighborhood for a couple years. There was one. It's she he left or just was not visible to me. And I like to think that it's back, but it's probably different one.
It doesn't matter. Anyway, all the birds scattered. And I was it was like a Tuesday morning and I was like, holy shit. And then I was like, how long is it gonna take for the birds to come back? This is like so much food right here. Like, they all left.
How did they know that the hawk was there? Like, I just anyway, all of those thoughts, I have an app. I don't download a lot of apps. My best friend's laughing at me because I don't download a lot of apps. But like, I have the Merlin app. If you're a birdwatcher, the Merlin app from I think Columbia University.
Anyway, I digress. But every little piece of that identifying the bird, hearing the birds, filling up the bird feeder, seeing a new bird, marveling at how the big ones are wrapping their bodies around. There are some birdhouses that they're kind of getting in. I thought they were abandoned.
Now they're back in. Like, there's so many things happening while I wash dishes or while I'm on the couch that I'm like, holy shit, this is awesome. This is like a miracle in front of me. This is joy right in front of me. And so for you, it doesn't really matter what it is. Speaking of joy, my three year old is in here now listening to music and singing to kids' bodies. I think.
So if you can hear in the background, joy guys, pull the thread of joy, whatever it is. Find something that either you've liked before or something that you're interested in, or just tell your brain to look for it. I haven't really haven't been much of a bird water watcher, at least I haven't thought that I was, but I've always been obsessed with this hawk. And so I was like walking at the park and there was an Audubon society and I just started talking to somebody.
And for those of you that are in my training, you know, that was like the activating system, like looking for something interesting or joyful in my life. And I found it. And so I just want to open your brain up to that. Again, something that has brought you join the past or something that will bring you join the future, be open to finding that. Don't minimize it.
It matters. Find that joy and pull that thread, pull that thread of joy, just like my three year old is doing right now. All right, guys, we'll see you again next week. Go pull that thread. We'll see you next week and talk to you later.
Bye for now.
