Welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy Podcast. I'm Lindsay Wilson and I am a high-performance mindset coach, a mom, a former professional athlete and an entrepreneur. I help coaches and high performers optimize their mindset to improve their coaching, their performance and those of their athletes and their lives. Here you'll learn all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it and how to sell it. Hi, all, and welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast.
My name is Lindsay Wilson. It's Mental Monday. If you're a mindset or mental performance coach, I want to talk to you a little bit about how you can love what you do a little too much. And what I mean by that is when we, I think there's two things that really happen when we like just so, we're so passionate about mindset and mental performance coaching.
There's two things that happen that I see happen. One is we think that because everyone needs it, and we really, really believe that, that we have to be the one to deliver it to everybody. We have to talk to everybody. We have to not like leave anyone out. And what this does is this really dilutes our marketing efforts. And as we always say in the Insider Program and in the MCA, when you are talking to everyone, you are talking to no one.
one. You will not cut through the noise of all the noise that everybody hears. You won't get to the right people if you're not speaking directly to them and speaking directly to their problem. So just because everyone can benefit mindset coaching doesn't mean that you should be talking to everyone.
So that's mistake number one. The second I think is a little bit of it's almost like entitlement. It's almost like you're not taking the onus upon yourself to really communicate the value of mindset coaching because you're like they would they need this like are they it's almost like blaming the customer like of course they need this like and you think that like because it's a good thing that it's going to sell itself. and because you're good at it that people will understand that and if they don't then it's almost like their fault. And you may not be saying those exact words but it's almost like you like it and love it so much that you're like baffled why other people aren't just like knocking down your door.
And I'm telling you all this with love because I have been in both of those places. I have both thought that everybody needs it so I need to not leave anyone out and I need to talk to everybody because it's like the most amazing thing in the world. And I have also thought like like they're crazy if they don't want this. Like I have this secret, I have this thing that fricking works and like they can come find me kind of.
And like, it's not gonna happen. So just if you've been in that way, no shame, no judgment because I've totally been there, but getting back to like part of your job is to explain very clearly, very simply why they need it. It's not enough for you to just believe that they need it or know that they need it.
That is not enough. That's important, but you actually have to take action and work on being able to communicate that in a simple doable way. Like you're not entitled to clients and customers just because mindset coaching is cool and great and awesome and everybody can benefit from it. Your job is to sell them. That is part of your job. And selling is communicating the value. And so, That's all I have to say about that.
I think it's a really important thing to just go back to though because as always, if you're not selling mindset and mental performance coaching, it is your job to figure it out, not theirs, not your customers. It is your job. Okay?
So just a couple little things. If you're having a hard time selling, if you're so, so, so in love with what you sell, it can be great, but it can also work against you. Just because you love it doesn't mean you also have to take those actions, right? You also have to sell it. You also have to learn how to communicate how much you love it in an effective way that works for them, your potential clients, not just for you. So those are my thoughts for today.
You know, I think this is a really important piece to being able to sell mindset coaching. It's great that you love it. I love it too.
You're here, you're passionate about it. That's great. Now, learn to sell it. All right, guys, we'll see you again next week.
