Lindsey 00:35
Hi, all, and welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast, it's mental Monday, you know what we do on Mondays, we talk about one tip tool or technique to help you in your life, better your mindset, get some shit done.
Lindsey 00:51
Okay, I want to talk about a simple concept of being on the fence. And this obviously applies to so many of our mindset coaching students, people that want to get started as a mindset coach, they're aspiring to be a mindset coach, maybe even it's just like a little, you know, thought in the back of their head. But really, this applies to anything.
Lindsey 01:12
So oftentimes, what happens is people are on the fence, and this can go on for years, it can go on for years about all number of different goals you have in your life. But the way that I want to talk about it, is really understanding that there is no right or wrong choice. It is all based on how we interpret. Being on the fence.
Lindsey 01:38
So on the fence is uncomfortable, it is fearful it is I don't know, where we tell ourselves, I don't know which way to go, I don't know what to choose, I want this thing. But I also don't want this thing and it's going to be uncomfortable. But it's also uncomfortable to be here. And that indecision creates some sort of story in our minds.
Lindsey 01:58
Now, to the extreme that story is either I'm excited about the possibility of what this can be even in this unknown because in the unknown, there is hope, there is possibility there is newness and change. And that can be either exciting, and quote-unquote, a good thing, or on the other side of the fence is, oh shit, this is uncomfortable.
Lindsey 02:26
I don't know what could happen. And then our brain starts filling in this story of the worst-case scenario, right? What if I have to do this? Or what if I don't have money, or what if I look stupid, or a lot of it is gonna be social, a lot of it is going to be a loss of ego, or embarrassment or perceived embarrassment in public, right? The failure of doing it out in the world, okay.
Lindsey 02:49
So often we will have these two extremes. And what I want you to recognize at this moment is being on the fence is all about the story of what we make that mean, there is no truth to either side, it is not for sure. Hopeful and positive, it is not for sure, negative. And terrible. It is what we decide to make it mean, okay.
Lindsey 03:22
And this is where our desire really has to be bigger than that fear in order to take no action. And so at this moment, whatever it is in your life, again, we talk a lot about this when it comes to entrepreneurship because entrepreneurship is scary. And a lot of people think that they need to sort of jump.
Lindsey 03:41
But one way to sort of get over this is one, be very aware of the story you're telling yourself about whatever it is the best-case scenario, the worst-case scenario, and then decide to take one little bit of action based on whichever story you choose. So if it's I want to be scared, that take the action that takes this option off the table, you're not going to keep entertaining the thought of doing this thing right now maybe later.
Lindsey 04:14
You know, but not right now. It is off the table, force yourself to do that. Or if you want to go the positive route, the hopeful route, the possibility route, you take one piece of action and hold yourself to that. But make sure the action is with that thought. Because if it's with the thought, I'm going to do this, but I don't think it's going to work out it's not going to work out. It's not gonna work out.
Lindsey 04:39
So we take action from the place of possibility. And when we do that, we start to take ownership over which story we choose. That doesn't mean you're gonna be wildly successful right away. It means we train ourselves to take action based on an intentional thought, I am choosing to think this way, and therefore act this way. When we do that, our world opens up.
Lindsey 05:16
And again, you can do this for anything, not just for certification or not just for being a mindset coach. You do this for anything in your life, choosing the thought of possibility and then taking action from that place. Get off the dang fence. Nobody wants to be on the fence, the fence sucks, or anything in your life. Likewise, if you don't want to do it, then choose stay with that thought of this is not for me.
Lindsey 05:41
That's okay to get off the fence. Okay, guys, that's your mental Monday. I'll see you again next week.
