Lindsey 00:35
Hi all and welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. My name is Lindsey Wilson, and it's Mental Monday where we talk about one tip, tool, or technique to help you today and this week, really optimize your mindset and optimize your life as you can probably hear, I have a cold. Well, actually, I don't have a cold, I had a cold.
Lindsey 00:56
Now it's just that like residual, you actually sound worse than you feel. Thank God because I really did feel crappy there for a while. And probably like many of you, it's been like a revolving door of viruses going through house. So as a parent, it was like 1,2,3 kids sick back to back that it was my husband sick, then it was me. And yeah, good times.
Lindsey 01:23
This is what happens when we don't get all those daycare germs for a couple of years. They all just come roaring back. So I know I'm not alone in the craziness of holiday and winter viruses. But I hope you're feeling good. Nothing like getting sick to make you appreciate your health, though, am I right? I mean, man, when I bounce back from a cold, I'm like, hallelujah, I love feeling good.
Lindsey 01:49
Because when your head feels like it's going to explode, man, it's hard to get much done. So now I'm feeling better, not gonna push it because I've felt better, off and on for a week, and then went back to the depths of this massive head goal. Anyway, enough about SNAP. So, what I want to talk about today.
Lindsey 02:10
I wanted to talk about HOW is not an obstacle. So this is what happens often. We think of something that we want in our life, we immediately think of how to get it, and how we're going to do it. And that answer does not come easily. Because when we want something, it's often something we haven't done before, it's often something new. And so by definition, we don't know the how.
Lindsey 02:43
So instead of being able to sit with that feeling of I don't know, we start to revise what we want, we start to go from I don't know how to, I must not be able to very quickly without even noticing that we even make that jump. And then we go back to the drawing board and revise what we want.
Lindsey 03:06
We think well because I don't know that it's like this quick little succession of thoughts. After all, I don't know how that means I must not be able to do it, which means I must have to change what I want. This all happens is like a millisecond. And then we revise, we edit what we want. Instead, what I want you to pay attention to, is being okay with the discomfort of not knowing how, and this is a very significant discomfort.
Lindsey 03:35
But our ability to sit in that discomfort is correlated with how successful we are. Because by definition, when we are going for something big in our life, we are going for success. We cannot know the how yet, we can't. And you can think about this in every aspect of your life. Anything you have done in the past that was big and bold and scary. You did not know how in the beginning, you didn't.
Lindsey 04:01
Otherwise, you would have done it already. So paying attention to that feeling. And remembering it is just a feeling of discomfort. It is okay to not know the how and layering on the story that we tell ourselves instead of oh my god, I don't know how that means I can't that means I won't.
Lindsey 04:24
That means I need to revise that quick little succession of thoughts. I don't know how deep breath is. Ah, that must mean that I'm pushing myself. That must mean that I'm doing it right. That little shift to switching the story about what that feeling means is everything. We can be okay with the discomfort. We can make the discomfort, a good thing. It's all about what we tell ourselves.
Lindsey 04:55
So tell yourself that discomfort is okay. Tell yourself that discomfort means you're growing. Okay? So let go of the need to know the how you will accomplish so much more. If you don't worry about that right away. It'll come later. Don't worry, it's waiting for you.
