Lindsey 00:35
Hi, all welcome to the mindset coach Academy podcast. My name is Lindsey Wilson, and it's Mental Monday, guys, this is where we sit down. And after just a few minutes, we talked about one tip or trick, or technique that you can use to optimize your life and your mindset today.
Lindsey 00:51
All right, this is a really simple, but hugely effective tool. Now, what a lot of you guys do, a lot of us that are driven high performing successful individuals, a lot of times what we do is we use our discipline for action, right? We use our willpower, and all that discipline for getting tasks done, whether that's things on our to-do list, whether that's exercise, whether that's eating right, or whatever it is.
Lindsey 01:25
And that's really great. That's important. That's what elevates people is that discipline of action. What is interesting about so many of us, is that we use that discipline for action. And we forget to use that discipline for our thoughts. So what does this often look like this looks like so often with, you know, an athlete client or just a high performer that I work with?
Lindsey 01:55
They use discipline for their tasks, and they don't use it at all for their thoughts. So they let their thoughts run amok. And generally, those thoughts are negative. So maybe there are perfectionist tendencies, maybe they're just extremely hard on themselves. Maybe they beat themselves up. And so they allow their thoughts to sort of run the show.
Lindsey 02:22
Okay, so the thoughts just kind of takeover, instead of using that discipline that they are so capable of, on the action part of their life, and use it to redirect their thoughts. So what this looks like is deciding to be positive. What this looks like, looks like the discipline of self-love.
Lindsey 02:45
This looks like the discipline of self-compassion. This looks like the discipline of redirecting those thoughts of just being ridiculously hard on themselves to productive thoughts, redirecting and disciplining themselves with a thought, because here's the thing. It feels when you are high, performing driven person, it feels like discipline of thoughts means being hard on yourself.
Lindsey 03:13
And in fact, the opposite is true, it is easy to be hard on yourself, and it is easy to let negative thoughts take over. For example, let's say you lose a game, let's say you lost the game, or you think that you lost the game. What's easier, feeling sorry for yourself and being hard on yourself, or being overly positive? Literally, what's harder, it is so much harder to be positive.
Lindsey 03:38
If you really want to be a disciplined person, be disciplined in your thoughts. Instead of letting your thoughts run the show, instead of following your thoughts along. Like they're the ones that are in the driver's seat, being disciplined and saying no, no, no, we're not gonna wallow over here. If it's a bad game, we're gonna feel sorry for ourselves.
Lindsey 04:01
Sure, we can feel bad for one second, and we're gonna get better, we're gonna figure out what we did wrong. And we're gonna freakin get better because that's what we do. And I'm gonna do it because I love myself and I do it because I'm strong. And I do it because I'm better than this. Boom. That is discipline, my friend.
Lindsey 04:18
And that is so much harder than beating yourself up being hard on yourself. And I always thought that we're all taught dude. And if you're competitive, you're gonna be hard on yourself bullshit. Bullshit. Be disciplined in your actions. That's great. Don't be hard on yourself for five seconds.
Lindsey 04:34
And then bring your thoughts back to the discipline of controlling your thoughts. And this is true for sports. This is true for your business. This is true for your life, your career, the discipline that you want to have in your life. Take it to your thoughts, and everything changes.
Lindsey 04:52
I'm telling you guys when you take that discipline and apply it to your thoughts, everything changes. Alright guys Hey, if you like this podcast, share it with a friend. I know that you know somebody that is disciplined in their actions but not disciplined in their mind. I know that you do.
Lindsey 05:08
