Hi all and welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. It is mental Monday. My name is Lindsey Wilson. Mental Mondays are where we take five minutes and we talk about one tool or technique that you can implement in your life today, or this week, to up your mental game. I want to talk about asking for permission.
Lindsey 00:53
Now. If you're listening to this podcast, whether you are a mindset coach, whether you are a coach, I guess that you influence people, I guess that you actually coach, even if you don't coach, right, like those of us that coach, we coach all the time. And sometimes that can be irritating to the people around us.
Lindsey 01:10
But it is an important calling in life. And I want to give you one little simple, simple, simple technique that really helps make that coaching, take it to another level. And it's this ask for permission. So this is what it can look like. I was talking to my cousin the other day, and she has a big life decision in front of her. And everybody's giving her their advice. And I asked her, Can I give you some coaching?
Lindsey 01:38
Can I coach you through this? And she said yes. But later she says, I really appreciate you asking, because everybody is giving me advice. And they don't even ask if I want it. Now, if you're working with an athlete or young person or your kid, it might sound something like this. Can I teach you something? Or it might say, I have a great visualization that I want to teach you. Is that okay?
Lindsey 02:05
And of course, the answer could always be No. But whether it's in an actual client session, or if it's just like a casual conversation, I've noticed that asking for permission creates that space for ownership, they are so much more invested in the visualization or the tool or the advice or the coaching that you give them if you ask. And again, this can be hard sometimes to even remember because those of us that coach, sometimes it just sort of like bubbles out from us.
Lindsey 02:39
But taking that beat gives that space for them to sort of meet you halfway. So I want you to play with this. I want you to just try this maybe sometime today. You know, again, if you're a coach, you're probably doing it to the person sitting next to you if you're in an office or on the plane. And you might just try and play with this. Give someone space to create some ownership for them. Ask for permission. Alright, guys. I'll see you again next week on Monday. Bye for now.
