Lindsey 00:35
Hi, y'all, welcome to Mental Monday. My name is Lindsey Wilson, and this is the Mindset Coach Academy podcast. And on Mondays, we give you one tip, tool, or technique that you can implement in your life today.
Lindsey 00:50
All right, I want to talk a little bit about three questions to ask yourself to really be honest with yourself about your goals. And this is one of the biggest things that a mindset coach does is help you remove the obstacles to getting what you want, right? Because our brain doesn't do it naturally. Our brain is constantly trying to pull us back into safety.
Lindsey 01:17
And it's constantly trying to justify it in a way that makes us not feel bad about ourselves. So the first question, which I believe often takes some intentional work, some journaling, some meditation, some, maybe even just getting away from it all going for a walk and thinking really deeply.
Lindsey 01:42
I really do think journaling is really helpful but deeply about what you want. And this can be a really scary question. I'm not gonna go into it too far. This is just a mental Monday. But that's a whole nother episode. But asking that question, right, really asking that question, not expecting necessarily for the answers to just hit you in the face.
Lindsey 02:02
But taking some time, and continuing to ask yourself that question, what do I want? The second question is, what will it take to get that thing? Now, this is where it gets tricky. Because we often edit ourselves between these two questions. So what do I want? We only think about what is possible. What will it take, we often think what we want is impossible, or we start thinking about all the obstacles that make it impossible.
Lindsey 02:32
And then the third question is getting honest with yourself. Because again, this is where our brain tricks us, we think, Oh, well, that thing is impossible. I can't, that doesn't, I can't have that. That's not going to happen. So stop wanting it, in other words, but what I have found is hugely empowering is not to say we have to go for all of our goals at every single moment of every single part of our life.
Lindsey 03:01
But set being honest with yourself and saying, Okay, this is what I want. This is what I think it will take and being honest about whether you're ready to overcome these obstacles. So the third question would be like, Am I ready to overcome these obstacles? Which is fine if you're not.
Lindsey 03:24
But we don't often ask that question. We often just assume that it's impossible. And this is not good. Because one, it's a lie. Right? Someone else has done it, even if someone else hasn't done it, it is possible, we just need to be honest about whether we're willing to overcome the obstacles.
Lindsey 03:42
And what's empowering about this, you guys, is that when we are fully honest, we get confident with that decision. And then we put our efforts towards the situations in our life, where we are ready to overcome the obstacles. And one thing you can tell yourself is, when I want something bad enough, I work to overcome the obstacles.
Lindsey 04:14
And if you don't want something bad enough, maybe you aren't willing to overcome those obstacles, and that is fine. Anything we want is going to take sacrifice, anything we want is going to take a lot of us and we don't have to go for everything. But what is hugely beneficial is being honest. Okay, what do I want? What will it take to get that? And am I ready to overcome the obstacles? In other words, do I want that thing bad enough to overcome the obstacles?
Lindsey 04:45
Now there's a whole nother episode we can talk about if you don't believe it's possible, you don't have the confidence and you're not going to believe that you even can overcome the obstacles which make you not want it. That's a whole nother thing.
Lindsey 04:55
But just being honest about whether you are willing to overcome the obstacles and being OK with the answer. It's actually really empowering. Because then you can decide where you're willing to sacrifice that much. And it's not all aspects of your life at every moment of your life.
Lindsey 05:14
Being honest is hugely motivating and empowering. So try it. What do you want? What will it take to get that? And are you ready to overcome those obstacles? All right, guys, have a great day. Have a wonderful week.
