Hi, and welcome to the Mindset Coach Academy Podcast. Today it is Mental Monday, and we are talking all about mindset, how to live it, how to teach it, and how to sell it.
Lindsey 00:25
All right all, welcome to Mental Monday. So I am planning out our mastermind retreat, our certification students are inside our students, and we are getting together for a retreat in the fall. And so I'm doing a lot of writing about what retreats mean, what community means, and what events like that can mean for someone.
Lindsey 00:44
And I'm reflecting on my own, really past, well seven years, but definitely the past two with COVID. And I'm noticing that when I start thinking about doing something like that, something in person, something where there's going to be a positive ROI, Return On Investment, but I don't know exactly what it's going to be. I've noticed that it's almost like I can feel the neural pathways in my brain having been paved a little bit more. And I'll give you an example.
Lindsey 01:18
So definitely prior to kids, and certainly before COVID, it seemed like when there were opportunities, I would have that sort of improv reaction of like, yeah, or at least maybe, you know, the, like the "Yes and" sort of response. And especially with COVID, because of my brain, constant and like so many people constant reassessment of risk, which is, a little bit of a mind eff as we all know, it's like, I start thinking of all the reasons why I shouldn't do something.
Lindsey 01:57
And so instead of that, like "Yes and" response, more often than I think was normal for me before it becomes the "Yeah but" and then I think of all the reasons that I shouldn't, all the reasons, again, which some of those things were very, very real, and some of them still are. But I've noticed that it's not just the things that are real, it's like the neural pathways got paved.
Lindsey 02:22
That's the only way I can say it is like, I think of the reasons not to do something more than I did in the past. And it's just as things kind of bubble up for me again when I think about the retreat, and I think of my own response to opportunities. And, in this case, it probably involves some travel, and certainly, some money and some investment, and being around people, which can be a little bit more anxiety-ridden than before, which never was a thing for me, but kind of is now.
Lindsey 02:52
And so again, I just wanted to bring it up. Because if you are finding yourself when an opportunity arises, and I'm just talking about the retreat right now because that's what's first in my mind, but I'm noticing with other things, too, if you're noticing opportunities come in front of you. And maybe previously, you were more of a "Yes and" person. And now you're "No", or "Maybe" or "Yes but" or "But" if you're having those kinds of responses. Know that you aren't alone.
Lindsey 03:24
Know that it's because of the last couple of years of always having to manage risk. And I don't have the solution for you, per se, but I do have the sense that I need to be more aware of it. And oftentimes when I need to be more aware of things, I know that a lot of you do as well. So I wanted to share that.
Lindsey 03:42
So paying attention to opportunities and paying attention to that sort of knee-jerk reaction if you will. If you're like you want to be the "Yes and" person but you're like mostly the "But" you know and think of all the reasons why you can't do it, person, just be aware of it. Again, no solutions just being aware of it.
